Tea & porcelain heritage

From Huizhou tea to six generations of porcelain.

Our family story traces back to 1880, when tea trading between Huizhou and Fuliang opened a path into Jingdezhen porcelain. Across six generations, that path grew from a tea house and ceramic trading to a private kiln, modern production and an original brand.

Our family path

From Jinghe Tea House to Tingli Ceramics.

1880 marks the origin of the family’s tea-and-porcelain practice, not the legal founding of today’s company. The Tingli brand was established in 2019.

1880–1912

First generation

Hong Jinghe

Tea merchant, first encounters with Fuliang porcelain

He founded Jinghe Tea House in Xiuning in 1880. Seasonal tea journeys to Fuliang introduced him to Jingdezhen ceramics and a trade in which tea and tea ware travelled together.

  • — Added Jingdezhen tea ware and domestic porcelain in 1882
  • — Opened a Fuliang branch in 1895
  • — Placed family representatives in Jingdezhen in 1905
  • — Encouraged the next generation to build a lasting porcelain practice

1913–1943

Second generation

Hong Chengyao

Settlement in Fuliang and a family kiln

After moving the family to Fuliang, he shifted the business from trade toward making. Jingyao Ceramic House commissioned its own forms before building a wood-fired kiln and clay workshop.

  • — Established Jingyao Ceramic House in 1916
  • — Built the first family wood-fired kiln in 1922
  • — Expanded tea ware and daily porcelain through the 1920s and 1930s
  • — Preserved the workshop and craft through wartime disruption

1943–1978

Third generation

Hong Shouqian

Keeping craft knowledge through a changing era

He restored modest production after the war. During the cooperative transition, the private kiln entered the local ceramic system and he continued his practice in a state-owned factory.

  • — Restarted small-scale tea ware and household porcelain
  • — Joined the local cooperative production system
  • — Continued glaze and production work in a state-owned factory
  • — Passed forms, materials and glaze knowledge to the family

1979–2010

Fourth generation

Hong Qishan

Reviving private production

With economic reform, he left the state factory and rebuilt the family ceramic workshop, combining modern equipment with hand throwing and painting.

  • — Opened a small private workshop in 1982
  • — Expanded into a ceramic factory in 1988
  • — Renewed the tea-and-porcelain idea in 1995
  • — Combined production, custom work and the study of earlier forms

2011–2018

Fifth generation

Hong Yanchuan

Strengthening production for a brand transition

He upgraded production, established a development studio and organised the family narrative, preparing a shift from contract manufacturing toward original products and brand expression.

  • — Upgraded the factory and established an R&D studio in 2012
  • — Connected handcraft with standardised production
  • — Expanded digital, retail and cultural-tourism channels
  • — Prepared the sixth generation for succession

2019–present

Sixth generation

Hong Xiaohua

Founding Tingli and building an original brand

In 2019, he took over the family factory and founded Tingli Ceramics, bringing the Huizhou–Fuliang tea-and-porcelain story into contemporary products, spaces and partnerships.

  • — Founded the Tingli Ceramics brand in 2019
  • — Upgraded production and showroom spaces from 2020
  • — Developed Tea & Porcelain themed collections from 2023
  • — Focused on tea ware, gifts, collectibles and daily porcelain

Tingli today

Rooted in Jingdezhen and Fuliang, Tingli brings this family heritage into contemporary tea ware, cultural gifts, collectible porcelain and objects for daily life.
